The Boston Celtics pay a visit to the Los Angeles Clippers at the STAPLES Center on Monday night.
The Boston Celtics have had their struggles over the last month, but they’ve won four of their last five games and they will be aiming for a fourth straight victory after taking down the Lakers in a 120-107 road win on Saturday. Kyrie Irving led the team with 30 points and five assists on 12 of 18 shooting, Marcus Smart and Marcus Morris each scored 16 points while Gordon Hayward chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Celtics shot 51 percent from the field and 14 of 38 from the 3-point line as they cruised to victory after taking a 10-point lead against the shorthanded Lakers who were without key players in Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball, Lance Stephenson and Brandon Ingram. With the win, Boston improved to 41-26 on the season and 17-16 on the road which is good for fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in great form as they’ve won seven of their last nine games and they will be aiming for a fifth straight victory after taking down the Thunder in a 118-110 home win on Friday. Lou Williams led the team with 40 points and five assists off the bench, Danilo Gallinari added 34 points on 10 of 19 shooting while Ivica Zubac chipped in with 14 points. As a team, the Clippers shot 45 percent from the field and nine of 25 from the 3-point line as they squandered a 12-point halftime lead, only to regroup just in time as Gallinari and Williams scored the final 15 points for the Clippers in a tightly contested, chippy game. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 38-29 overall and 19-12 at home which is good for seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 35-16-2 ATS in their last 53 games following a win of more than 10 points and 3-1-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Clippers are 4-0 ATS in their last four home games, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games against a team above .600 and 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, the under is 8-3-1 in the last 12 meetings in LA and the Celtics are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings overall.
These teams last met on Feb 9. which resulted in a 123-112 road win for the Clippers, so the Celtics will be keen to exact revenge in this one. I’m not surprised that the Celtics have opened as the slight favorites here, but the Clippers have been in fine form as they’ve won seven of nine while going 6-0 ATS in their last six games overall. This one could go either way, but I’m sticking with the Clippers to pull off the minor upset at home.
