The Line: Los Angeles -10 -- Over/Under 230.5
The New York Knicks pay a visit to the Los Angeles Clippers at the STAPLES Center on Sunday afternoon.
The New York Knicks were in a world of hurt during their ugly 18-game losing streak, but they went through a nice stretch of three wins in four outings before falling short against the Cavaliers in a 125-118 home loss on Thursday. Allonzo Trier led the team in scoring with 22 points off the bench while Noah Vonleh and Dennis Smith Jr. each scored 16 points. As a team, the Knicks shot 48 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they played well for most of the game to lead by nine points in the fourth quarter before the Cavaliers closed the game on a 21-5 run to steal the game late. With the tough loss, New York fell to 13-49 overall and 6-25 at home which is good for last place in the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in pretty good shape lately as they’ve won five of their last eight games and they will be looking to keep things rolling after taking down the Kings in a 116-109 road win on Friday. Landry Shamet drained five 3-pointers on his way to a team-high 20 points, Danilo Gallinari added 19 points, Lou Williams added 17 points while Montrezl Harrell chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Clippers shot 43 percent from the field and 12 of 31 from the 3-point line as they held on for the win after having their 13-point fourth quarter lead cut to just three with less than four minutes left. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 35-29 on the season and 18-17 on the road which is good for seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Knicks are 5-12 ATS in their last 17 Sunday games, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against the Western Conference and 4-9 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Clippers are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 Sunday games and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 15-6 ATS in the last 21 meetings, the Knicks are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings in LA but the Knicks are just 3-7 ATS in the last 10 meetings overall.
It’s hard to know what to expect from the Knicks who beat two playoff-bound teams like the Spurs and the Magic before collapsing against the Cavaliers on Thursday. The Clippers haven’t been at their best, but they’ve been consistent, and they looked great in their road win over the in-form Kings on Friday. The Clippers are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings and I think that trend continues as they should be too good in this one.
