The Line: Los Angeles -8
The Phoenix Suns pay a visit to the Los Angeles Clippers at the STAPLES Center on Wednesday night.
The Phoenix Suns haven’t been able to buy a win these days as they’re currently riding a season-high 14-game losing streak after falling to the Kings in a 117-104 road loss on Sunday. Devin Booker led the team with 27 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Josh Jackson added 18 points while DeAndre Ayton chipped in with 16 points and nine rebounds. As a team, the Suns shot just 41 percent from the field and six of 27 from the 3-point line, but they were always fighting a losing battle after falling behind by 19 points going into halftime as they just had no answer for the Kings’ rookie Marvin Bagley III who poured in a career-high 32 points. With the loss, Phoenix fell to 11-47 overall and 4-25 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Clippers have been in decent shape as they’ve won seven of their past 12 games, but they will be looking to bounce back after falling short against the Timberwolves in a 130-120 road loss on Monday. Lou Williams led the team with a season-high 45 points off the bench, Montrezl Harrell added 18 points with 12 rebounds and six assists while Landry Shamet chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Clippers shot a healthy 51 percent from the field and 12 of 29 from the 3-point line, but the final score doesn’t quite indicate how one-sided this loss was as the Clippers actually trailed by as many as 23 points. With the loss, Los Angeles fell to 31-27 overall and 16-15 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 1-4 ATS in their last five road games, 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games following a loss and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Clippers are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss, 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team below .400.
Head to head, the home team is 10-4 in the last 14 meetings, the Suns are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in LA.
The Suns have been in a world of hurt as they just can’t beat anyone these days, so this would normally be an easy win for the Clippers in this spot. However, after upsetting the Celtics in dramatic fashion, they got blown out by the Timberwolves on Monday which isn’t surprising given the recent trade of their best player in Tobias Harris. I’m tempted to take the Suns with the points as the Clippers are capable of laying an egg here, but the Suns are 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in LA. I’m sticking with the Clippers to get the win and cover at home in this one.
