The Golden State Warriors pay a visit to the Los Angeles Lakers at the STAPLES Center on Thursday night.
The Golden State Warriors have been building some nice momentum with eight wins in their last 11 games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after cruising past the Nuggets in a 116-102 home win on Tuesday. DeMarcus Cousins came ready to play as he racked up 28 points with 13 rebounds and five assists on 12 of 17 shooting, Kevin Durant added 21 points with six assists while Stephen Curry chipped in with 17 points and five assists. As a team, the Warriors shot a healthy 54 percent from the field and 13 of 34 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with their defense in the first half to build a 16 points lead going into halftime, before resting their starters early in the game to allow the Nuggets to keep the scores respectable. With the dominant statement win, Golden State improved to 53-24 on the season and 28-11 at home which is good for the top seed in the Western Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers spring to life with four wins during a five-game stretch before falling to the Thunder in a 119-103 road loss on Tuesday. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the team in scoring with 23 points, five rebounds and four assists in a starting gig, Alex Caruso added 15 points with seven assists off the bench while Rajon Rondo chipped in with seven points, 10 rebounds and nine assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 47 percent from the field and 16 of 39 from the 3-point line as they hung with the Thunder in the first half, but they were always fighting an uphill battle after getting outscored by 35-23 in the third quarter. With the loss, Los Angeles fell to 35-43 overall and 14-26 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Warriors are 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record, 4-11 ATS in their last 15 games following a win and 1-6 ATS in their last seven games following a win of more than 10 points. The Lakers are 2-7 ATS in their last nine games following a loss of more than 10 points, 1-8 ATS in their last nine games against a team with a winning record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the underdog is 5-2 ATS in the last seven meetings, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the Warriors are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings.
This one really comes down to motivation for the Warriors as we all know they should win this one easily against the Lakers who just don't have the firepower to hang around. The warriors haven't been the best team to bet on lately as they're just 3-9-1 ATS in their last 13 games against a team with a losing record and 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings, but they've won all three meetings against the Lakers by double-digits and should have no problem completing the season sweep with an easy win here.
