On Tuesday, the Memphis Grizzlies head out West to battle the Los Angeles Lakers in a game that matches up two western conference teams. The Grizzlies come into Tuesday's game after somewhat of a surprise win against the Brooklyn Nets by the score of 134-133 in overtime. In the Grizzlies game against the Nets, rookie and 2nd overall pick in this year's draft JA Morant scored a season high 30 points which lead his team and also recorded 4 rebounds in 9 assists which also led Memphis. The Grizzlies were led in rebounds by center Jonas Valanciunas with 11.
The win was the Grizzlies first of the season and the team now has a record of 1-2. On the year the Grizzlies have now averaged 112.3 points per game while allowing 121 points per game. The Grizzlies have been decent from the field, shooting 44.4% on the year. Not a lot is expected out of the Grizzlies this season as they are a team that most people see as going through a rebuilding phase, but a win against a good team like the Nets, gives Grizzlies fans some hope that this year won't be a complete disaster.
The Lakers come into Tuesday's game with a record of 2-1 and have now won games against the Jazz and the Hornets after losing to the Clippers in their season opener. In their last game, the Lakers crushed the Hornets by the score of 120-101 and were in control most of the game, especially in the 4th quarter in which the Lakers outscored the Hornets 33-21. The Lakers were led in points and rebounds by Anthony Davis who scored 29 points and also recorded 14 rebounds. LeBron James also had a good game, recording a team leading 12 assists and 20 points of his own. Offseason acquisition Dwight Howard also had a big game coming off the bench as he recorded 16 points while shooting 8 for 8 from the field an getting 10 rebounds of his own.
On the year, The Lakers have scored 105.7 points per game and are allowing 99.7 points per game. A lot of the Lakers defensive success can be attributed to the play of Anthony Davis, who has come through for the Lakers on both ends of the court this season. As a team the Lakers are shooting 45.5% from the field while also recording an average of 43.3 rebounds per game and 8 blocks per game. On the season Anthony Davis leads the Lakers in points per game with 25 and in rebounds per game with 10. On the year LeBron James has been a great facilitator of the basketball and is averaging 10 assists per game.
Although the win against the Nets gave the Grizzlies some hope, I don't see them having enough firepower to keep up with such a talented Lakers team. The offense that the Grizzlies do have will have a hard time scoring against a tough Lakers defense and I don't believe they have enough defense to stop what the Lakers can bring offensively. Lakers win, 115-100 and covers the spread.
