The Line: Los Angeles +9.5 -- Over/Under 224
The Los Angeles Lakers play host to the Portland Trailblazers at the STAPLES Center on Tuesday night.
The Portland Trailblazers have been in great form lately as they’ve won 12 of their last 15 games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the shorthanded Nuggets in a 115-108 home win on Sunday. Damian Lillard led the team with 30 points and five assists, Al-Farouq Aminu added 23 points with 11 rebounds while Enes Kanter chipped in with a double-double of 11 points with 13 rebounds. As a team, the Trailblazers shot 46 percent from the field and nine of 28 from the 3-point line as they hung on for the narrow win after leading by 11 points at halftime. With the win, Portland improved to 51-29 overall and 31-9 at home which is currently good for fourth place in the Western Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Lakers have been quietly been playing some of their best basketball in a while as they’ve won six of their last nine games and they will be hoping to cap off their season on a winning note after taking down the playoff-bound Jazz in a 113-109 home win on Sunday. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the team with 32 points and six assists, JaVale McGee added 22 points while Alex Caruso chipped in with 18 points and 11 assists. As a team, the Lakers shot 51 percent from the field and seven of 25 from the 3-point line as they looked to be in trouble when the Jazz outscored them by 32-20 in the second quarter, but they were certainly the better team in the second half where they poured in 69 points to escape with the upset against the Jazz who were riding a seven-game win streak. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 37-44 overall and 22-18 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trailblazers are 2-7 ATS in their last nine Tuesday games, 11-4 ATS in their last 15 road games and 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record. The Lakers are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a winning record and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 7-2 ATS in the last nine meetings, the Trailblazers are 23-9 ATS in the last 32 meetings in Los Angeles and the Trailblazers are 45-19 ATS in the last 64 meetings overall.
The Trailblazers just refuse to go down despite the injuries they’ve had to endure and it is no surprise that it has been Lillard leading the way. The Lakers are just looking for the season to end as injuries crippled their chances of a playoff berth, but they’ve actually been surprisingly competitive lately as the red-hot Jazz found out on Sunday. I wouldn’t be shocked if I saw another upset here, but the Trailblazers are 23-9 ATS in the last 32 meetings in LA and they’re clearly the hotter team here.
