The Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers meet Wednesday in NBA action at the Staples Center.
The Dallas Mavericks could use another victory after losing six of their last eight games. The Dallas Mavericks are averaging 102.7 points on 44.7 percent shooting and allowing 105.3 points on 46.8 percent shooting. Harrison Barnes is averaging 18.8 points and 6.3 rebounds while Dennis Smith Jr. is averaging 15.1 points and 4.9 assists. Dirk Nowitzki is the third double-digit scorer and J.J. Barea is dishing 6.3 assists. The Dallas Mavericks are shooting 36.4 percent from beyond the arc and 77 percent from the free throw line. The Dallas Mavericks are allowing 36.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 41.1 rebounds per game. The Dallas Mavericks have lost four of their last six road games.
The Los Angeles Lakers could use a feel good victory after losing five of their last six games. The Los Angeles Lakers are averaging 108.4 points on 46.1 percent shooting and allowing 110 points on 45.8 percent shooting. Isaiah Thomas is averaging 15.6 points and five assists while Julius Randle is averaging 16.2 points and eight rebounds. The Mavericks are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 Wednesday games, 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games playing on 0 days rest and 5-12-1 ATS in their last 18 vs. NBA Pacific. The Lakers are 11-3 ATS in their last 14 home games, 5-16 ATS in their last 21 Wednesday games and 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall. The Mavericks are 15-7 ATS in the last 22 meetings in Los Angeles, 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings and the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings.
The Dallas Mavericks are coming off a win Tuesday over the Sacramento Kings, but that doesn't move the needle for me given that both clubs are tanking. The Los Angeles Lakers should also be tanking, but they've caught fire at home in the second half and seem to be enjoying the victories as it builds positive vibes and confidence heading into next season. With a young Lakers squad that pushes the pace against tired legs and an older Mavs team, this game heavily favors the Lakers at home. I'll eat the chalk in this spot.
