The Charlotte Hornets and the Memphis Grizzlies duke it out at the FedEx Forum on Wednesday night.
The Charlotte Hornets will be looking to bounce back after having their three-game win streak halted by the Pacers in a 120-95 road loss on Sunday. Kemba Walker led the team with 23 points and seven assists, Malik Monk added 11 points off the bench while Bismack Biyombo chipped in with 10 points and 12 rebounds. As a team, the Hornets shot just 40 percent from the field and 12 of 35 from the 3-point line but they just left themselves too much ground to make up after falling by 56-41 going into halftime. Walker had himself a nice game but just had no support as Marvin Williams scored just nine points on three of 13 shooting while Jeremy Lamb shot just four of 13 for his 10 points. With the loss, Charlotte dropped to 22-24 overall and 6-16 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in a serious slump as they’ve lost 12 of their last 13 games and they will be hoping to snap a six-game skid after falling to the shorthanded Pelicans in a 105-85 home loss on Monday. Marc Gasol led the team with 22 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Mike Conley added 20 points with eight assists while Jaren Jackson Jr. chipped in with 14 points, but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Grizzlies shot just 37 percent from the field and nine of 35 from the 3-point line as they fell to the Pelicans who were missing their best player in Anthony Davis. With the loss, Memphis fell to 19-28 overall and 11-11 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hornets are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games, 0-5 ATS in their last five Wednesday games and 6-22-1 ATS in their last 29 games following a loss of more than 10 points. The Grizzlies are 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games, 0-7 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 6-20 ATS in their last 26 games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 6-2 ATS in the last eight meetings, the Hornets are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings in Memphis.
The Hornets were on a nice run of three straight wins by double digits before they got routed by the Pacers on Sunday. The Grizzlies have been in a world of hurt for 13 games now and they really looked flat against the shorthanded Pelicans in their last outing. The Hornets are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and I expect this trend to continue here as I'm surprised the Grizzlies are favorites in this one.
