The Line: Memphis -1 -- Over/Under 203.5
The Minnesota Timberwolves and the Memphis Grizzlies duke it out at the FedEx Forum on Tuesday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their last seven games but they will be looking to bounce back after falling just short against the Nuggets in a 107-106 home loss on Saturday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 31 points, 12 rebounds and seven assists, Jerryd Bayless added 15 points with 10 assists while Loul Deng chipped in with 11 points off the bench. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 47 percent from the field and 11 of 34 from the 3-point line but in a closely contested game, the Timberwolves fell short as they missed their potential game winner with time expiring. With the loss, Minnesota fell to 25-27 overall and 17-10 at home.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies have been in a real slump as they’ve lost 11 of their last 13 games but they will be feeling a little better after snapping a three-game skid with a 96-84 road win at New York on Sunday. Mike Conley led the team with 25 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Marc Gasol added 24 points with nine rebounds and five assists while Justin Holiday chipped in with 19 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot 40 percent from the field and nine of 26 from the 3-point line as they cruised to victory after taking control of the game in the third quarter where they outscored the shorthanded Knicks by 32-21. With the win, Memphis improved to 21-33 overall and 9-19 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 4-1 ATS in their last five road games, 0-5 ATS in their last five games playing on two days rest and 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team below .400. The Grizzlies are 4-0 ATS in their last four games following a win of more than 10 points, 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a losing record and 7-20 ATS in their last 27 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 5-0 in the last five meetings, the Timberwolves are 1-6 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in Memphis.
The Timberwolves have fallen off the pace lately with three losses in their last four games but they were really close in their narrow loss to the red-hot Nuggets. The Grizzlies have been one of the coldest teams in the league lately but they were able to snap out of their funk with a win over the Knicks, but it’s hard to get excited about beating the Knicks these days. The Grizzlies are slight favorites and they are 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings, but the Timberwolves have been the more reliable team all season and that’s who I’m leaning towards in this one.
