The Memphis Grizzlies play host to the Washington Wizards at the FedEx Forum on Tuesday night.
The Washington Wizards have won just one of their first six games of the season and they will be eager to snap a three-game skid after falling to the Clippers in a 136-104 blowout on Sunday. Bradley Beal led the team in scoring with 20 points, John Wall added 18 points with five assists while Ian Mahinmi chipped in with 11 points. As a team, the Wizards shot just 39 percent from the field and a miserable five of 27 from the three-point line but once again it was their defense which just wasn’t up to scratch as the Clippers basically got any look they wanted from start to finish. Dwight Howard missed his fifth straight game with gluteal soreness.
Meanwhile, the Memphis Grizzlies are starting to play some decent basketball as they’ve won three of their last four games and they will be looking to stay hot after blowing past the Suns in a 117-96 home win on Saturday. Marc Gasol led the team with 19 points, Mike Conley and MarShon Brooks each scored 18 points while Garett Temple chipped in with 15 points. As a team, the Grizzlies shot a healthy 55 percent from the field and nine of 26 from the three-point line as they dominated the Suns in the first half to take an unassailable 68-43 lead going into the break which allowed them to rest their starters in the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 3-13 ATS in their last 16 road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 8-20 ATS in their last 28 games overall. The Grizzlies are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games, 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a winning record and 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, the under is 4-1 in the last five meetings and the Wizards are 3-9-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Memphis.
A win would do wonders for the Wizards who are seriously struggling, but they would have to radically improve on the defensive end as opponents are currently averaging 125 points against them. The Grizzlies aren’t a high-scoring team by any means, but they’ve covered in each of their last five home games while the Wizards have covered in just three of their last 16 road games. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Wizards sneak away with the win here, but the smart money is with in-form Grizzlies to get the win and cover at home in this one.
