The Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat duke it out at the American Airlines Arena on Thursday night.
The Boston Celtics have been on a nice roll with five wins in their last six games and they will be aiming for a fifth straight victory after last night’s 135-108 win over the Pacers. Marcus Morris and Jaylen Brown each scored 22 points, Jayson Tatum added 20 points while Gordon Hayward chipped in with 14 points off the bench. As a team, the Celtics shot a healthy 56 percent from the field and 14 of 32 from the 3-point line as they outscored the Pacers by 68-53 before running them off the court in the second half to finish with their highest point total of the season. With the dominant win, Boston improved to 25-15 overall and 15-5 at home.
Meanwhile, the Miami Heat have been in rough shape lately as they’ve lost four of their last seven games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling to the Nuggets in a 103-99 home loss on Tuesday. Dion Waiters returned from a two-game absence to lead the team with 15 points and four assists off the bench, Kelly Olynyk added 13 points while Josh Richardson, Hassan Whiteside and Justise Winslow each scored 12 points. As a team, the Heat shot 45 percent from the field and eight of 31 from the 3-point line as they fell just short in a game that was tied in the final two minutes. With the narrow loss, Miami dropped to 19-20 overall and 9-12 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 1-5 ATS in their last six games playing on zero days rest, 25-9 ATS in their last 34 games against a team with a losing record and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall. The Heat are 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record, 5-2 ATS in their last seven against the Eastern Conference and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings, the Celtics are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Miami.
The Celtics beat a tired Pacers team last night but they really look to have turned the corner as they looked great on both ends of the floor. The Heat have had their nice runs this season, but they’re in a bit of a funk now and actually come into this one with a losing home record. It’ll be tough for the Celtics as they will be playing this one on zero days rest, but that shouldn’t be a big factor as no starter played more than 25 minutes last night. This could go either way, but the Celtics are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Miami and I think that trend continues here.
