The Orlando Magic and Miami Heat meet Monday in NBA preseason action at the American Airlines Arena.
The Orlando Magic look for their first real preseason victory after beating up on Flamengo on Friday. The Magic are averaging 116.5 points on 51.7 percent shooting and allowing 101 points on 38.8 percent shooting. Nikola Vucevic is averaging 20.5 points and six rebounds while Aaron Gordon is averaging 19.5 points and three assists. Terrence Ross is the third double-digit scorer and Mohamed Bamba is grabbing six rebounds. The Magic have been one of the best offensive teams throughout the preseason, as they’re third in points per game and seventh in assists per game. While those numbers are a tad bit inflated due to playing a non-NBA squad, the Magic are one of those teams that should get excited off of even the slightest progress made. The Orlando Magic have split their last eight preseason games.
The Miami Heat are looking for their first preseason victory after a rough 0-3 start. The Heat are averaging 109 points on 40.8 percent shooting and allowing 115.7 points on 48.4 percent shooting. Hassan Whiteside is averaging 14.7 points and 12.3 rebounds while Rodney McGruder is averaging 14 points and 2.3 assists. Goran Dragic is the third double-digit scorer and Marcus Lee is grabbing six rebounds. The Heat have been awful defensively in this preseason, which is highly uncharacteristic for this club. However, it’s also important to note that the Heat haven’t exactly fielded a full team, as tons of guys are either sitting out due to minor injuries or trade talks. While the talks continue with the Minnesota Timberwolves for Jimmy Butler, the Heat seem to be careful on who they play until something is finalized. The Miami Heat have lost six of their last eight preseason games.
The under is 4-0 in Magic last 4 Monday games. The Heat are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games playing on 2 days rest, 1-6 ATS in their last 7 home games and the under is 6-1 in Heat last 7 games following a straight up loss. The Magic are 5-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings and the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.
The Orlando Magic have oddly had success against the Miami Heat over the years and enter this contest shooting extremely well. The Miami Heat aren't playing well defensively and aren't even putting a real roster on the court, as there's tons of players sitting out. I don't expect that to change much as the Heat and Timberwolves continue to discuss a deal for Jimmy Butler. Give me the points and the team that's going to play its players.
