Boston Celtics at Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves play host to the Boston Celtics at the Target Center on Friday night.

The Boston Celtics have been in great form lately as they’ve won 11 of their last 13 games and they will be looking to stay hot after taking down the Clippers in a 141-133 double overtime home win on Feb 13. Jayson Tatum led the team with 39 points on 14 of 23 shooting, Marcus Smart added 31 points, Gordon Hayward scored 21 points with 13 rebounds and four assists while Kemba Walker chipped in with 19 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Celtics shot 43 percent from the field and a sizzling 18 of 43 from the 3-point line as they held tough to outlast the Clippers in a thriller. All five starters finished in double figures while the bench combined for just 19 points in total.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a serious slump as they’ve lost 15 of their last 16 games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short against the Hornets in a 115-108 home loss on Feb 12. Malik Beasley led the team with 28 points on 11 of 25 shooting, D’Angelo Russell added 26 points with 11 assists while Juan Hernangomez chipped in with 16 points and 12 rebounds. As a team, the Timberwolves shot just 38 percent from the field and 14 of 49 from the 3-point line as they as they looked to be in full control after pouring in 66 points in the first half to lead by as many as 18 points before the Hornets flipped the script in the second half where they outscored the Timberwolves by 65-42. Karl-Anthony Towns sat out the game with a left wrist injury and there is no timeline for his return.

Looking at the betting trends, the Celtics are 5-1-1 ATS in their last seven games playing on three or more day’s rest, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games overall. The Timberwolves are 1-6 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, 6-21-1 ATS in their last 28 home games and 16-33-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall.

Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings overall and the Celtics are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings overall.

The Celtics were on fire heading into the All-Star break and they will be full of confidence following their double-overtime win over the Clippers in their last outing, so I like their chances against a slumping Timberwolves team who are without their best player in Towns. The Celtics are 5-2 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings overall, so I’m keeping it simple and going with the Celtics to get the win and cover here.
