The Line: Minnesota -4.5
The Los Angeles Clippers and the Minnesota Timberwolves do battle at the Target Center on Monday night.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been in decent form lately as they’ve won six of their past 10 games and they will be feeling pretty good after upsetting the Celtics in a 123-112 road win on Saturday. Montrezl Harrell led the team with 21 points off the bench, Danilo Gallinari added 19 points with 10 rebounds and four assists while Landry Shamet chipped in with 17 points off the bench. As a team, the Clippers shot 47 percent from the field and 12 of 30 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by as many as 28 points before rallying in the second half where they outscored the Celtics by 70-38 to pull off their best comeback win of the season. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 31-26 overall and 16-14 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a bit of a rut as they’ve lost six of their last seven games and they will be aiming to stop a four-game skid after falling short against the Pelicans in a 122-117 road loss on Friday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 32 points on 12 of 20 shooting, Andrew Wiggins added 23 points with 10 rebounds and seven assists while Isaiah Canaan and Jeff Teauge each scored 12 points. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 50 percent from the field and nine of 21 from the 3-point line as they dominated early to lead by as many as 18 points before the Pelicans fought back with 40 points in the second quarter as the Timberwolves had no answer for Anthony Davis who torched them for 32 points on 11 of 15 shooting. With the loss, Minnesota fell to 25-30 overall and 8-20 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Clippers are 4-1 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record, 10-4 ATS in their last 14 road games and 2-5ATS in their last seven games following a win. The Timberwolves are 0-5 ATS in their last five home games, 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games playing on two days rest and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 20-7-1 ATS in the last 28 meetings, the Clippers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings overall and 11-3-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Minnesota.
The Clippers were supposed to roll over and concede the rest of the regular season after they traded away their best player in Tobias Harris to the 76ers, but instead they are coming into this game fresh off their best win of the season after coming back from 28 points to beat the red-hot Celtics. The Timberwolves have been in a slump and they are looking to bounce back after falling to the slumping Pelicans in a game where Anthony Davis only played 25 minutes. The Clippers are 11-3-1 ATS in the last 15 meetings in Minnesota and I think that trend continues as the Clippers stay hot with an upset road win over the Timberwolves who are going through a rough patch at the moment.
