The Dallas Mavericks travel to the Smoothie King Center to battle the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday night.
The Dallas Mavericks haven't been at their best lately but they will be feeling pretty good after putting a halt to an ugly six-game skid with a 122-119 home win over the Pelicans on Wednesday. NBA Rookie Luka Doncic led the team with 21 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists, DeAndre Jordan added 20 points with 12 rebounds while JJ Barea provided the spark off the bench with 18 points and seven assists. As a team, the Mavericks shot 48 percent from the field and 12 of 35 from the 3-point line as they outlasted the Pelicans on the back of their backcourt duo of Doncic and Barea who led the fourth-quarter rally. With the win, Dallas improved to 16-17 overall and 14-3 at home.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans will be aiming to put a halt to their five-game losing streak after falling just short against the Mavericks on Wednesday. Anthony Davis led the team with 32 points and 18 rebounds, Jrue Holiday added 25 points with six assists, while Julius Randle chipped in with 23 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 46 percent from the field while committing just 10 turnovers, but in a free-flowing offensive game, the Pelicans stumbled in the fourth quarter to allow the Mavericks to steal it late. With the loss, New Orleans fell to 15-20 overall and 4-15 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games, and 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 Friday games. The Pelicans are 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record and 12-4 ATS in their last 16 home games following a road trip of seven or more days.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings and the favorite is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings.
The Mavericks came out desperate against the Pelicans on Wednesday and earned a much-needed win to get them out of their rut and now it's up to the Pelicans to do the same with this being the second game of a home and home set. That game came right down to the wire and I'm expecting this one to be just as competitive. The Mavericks will be confident of coming away with the win again, but they're in a slump and are just 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games so I'm actually looking at the Pelicans bounce back into form with a narrow win and cover against this pesky Mavericks team.
