The Line: New Orleans +9 -- Over/Under 237.5
The Milwaukee Bucks and the New Orleans Pelicans do battle at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night.
The Milwaukee Bucks have been in great form as they’ve won nine of their last 12 games, but they will be looking to bounce back after falling short against the streaking Spurs in a 121-114 road loss on Sunday. Giannis Antetokounmpo led the team with 27 points, 13 rebounds and six assists, Eric Bledsoe added 21 points with six assists on nine of 13 shooting while Khris Middleton chipped in with 15 points, eight rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Bucks shot 47 percent from the field and 14 of 36 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates to lead by as many as 15 points late in the first quarter, but the second half was a different story as they Spurs outscored them by 67-54 as they had no answer for the Spurs’ LaMarcus Aldridge who scored 29 points on 14 of 26 shooting. With the loss, Milwaukee fell to 50-17 on the season and 23-12 on the road.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have been in a real slump as they’ve lost eight of their last 13 games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after falling to the Hawks in a 128-116 road loss on Sunday. Frank Jackson and Julius Randle each scored 23 points, Elfrid Payton racked up a triple-double of 15 points with 10 rebounds and 10 assists while Anthony Davis chipped in with 15 points in 21 minutes of action. As a team, the Pelicans shot 44 percent from the field and 18 of 41 from the 3-point line while holding the Hawks’ Trae Young to just two of 14 shooting from the field, but they were outrebounded by 61-48 and couldn’t keep pace in the second half where they were outscored by 63-50. With the loss, New Orleans fell to 30-39 on the season and 12-25 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Bucks are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games, 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 games against a team with a losing record and 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games overall. The Pelicans are 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record, 12-3-1 ATS in their last 16 games against a team above .600 and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, the Bucks are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall and the Bucks are 2-6 ATS in the last eight meetings in New Orleans.
The Bucks had reeled off back to back blowout wins before falling short against the Spurs on Sunday, so they will be keen to bounce back against the slumping Pelicans who seem to be playing with Davis on a minutes restriction. These teams last met on Dec 19 and it was the Bucks who won by 123-115 and given their form, I’m looking at the Bucks to get back into the winner’s circle with an easy win and cover in this one.
