The Portland Trailblazers and the New Orleans Pelicans duke it out at the Smoothie King Center on Tuesday night.
The Portland Trailblazers have been in great form as they’ve won 14 of their last 16 games and they will be looking to build on Sunday’s 108-105 road win over the Thunder. CJ McCollum led the team with 34 points on 14 of 24 shooting, Damian Lillard added 24 points with five assists while Jusuf Nurkic chipped in with 17 points and 12 rebounds. As a team, the Trailblazers shot 46 percent from the field and nine of 34 from the three-point line as they took control of the game early with a 34-17 first quarter before trading blows in the second half where neither team led by more than seven points. With the narrow win, Portland improved to 45-28 overall which is good for third place in the Western Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have split their last 10 games but they were aiming for a fifth straight win before they fell to the Rockets in a 114-91 road loss on Saturday. Anthony Davis led the team with 25 points on 10 of 22 shooting, Cheick Diallo added 15 points off the bench while Jrue Holiday shot just five of 17 for his 10 points and four assists. As a team, the Pelicans shot just 39 percent from the field and six of 21 from the three-point line which was never going to be enough to hang with the Rockets who dominated the first half by 65-37. With the loss, New Orleans fell to 43-31 overall leaving them in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trailblazers are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games against a team with a winning record, 5-1 ATS in their last six road games and 33-16-2 ATS in their last 51 games overall. Meanwhile, the Pelicans are 5-0 ATS in their last five home games, 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a loss of more than 10 points and 5-1 ATS in their last six games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 9-3 ATS in the last 12 meetings, the Trailblazers are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings in New Orleans.
The Trailblazers have been one of the hottest teams in the league and they were able to bounce back from consecutive losses with a hard-fought win over the Thunder in their last outing. Meanwhile, the Pelicans were riding a four-game win streak before getting blown out by the Rockets so they haven’t been too bad lately. The Pelicans are leading the season series by 2-1 as they’ve taken the last two meetings, but the Trailblazers have been playing some of their best basketball of the season and I think they get it done here.
