The Line: New Orleans +4.5 -- Over/Under 232.5
The Toronto Raptors pay a visit to the New Orleans Pelicans at the Smoothie King Center on Friday night.
The Toronto Raptors have been in great form as they’ve won nine of their last 12 games, but they will be aiming to avoid a third straight defeat after falling short against the Rockets in a 107-95 home loss on Tuesday. Kawhi Leonard led the team with 26 points on 10 of 22 shooting, Pascal Siakam added 17 points with 10 rebounds while Serge Ibaka chipped in with 10 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks. As a team, the Raptors shot 41 percent from the field and nine of 32 from the 3-point line as they looked to have all the momentum when they outscored the Rockets by 34-14 in the third quarter to overcome a 22-point deficit, but they couldn’t keep it going in the fourth quarter where the Rockets outscored them by 38-24 to run away with it. With the loss, Toronto fell to 46-19 overall which is good for second place in the Eastern Conference.
Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans have won four of their last seven games but they will be looking to bounce back after having their three-game win streak halted by the Jazz in a 114-104 home loss on Wednesday. Julius Randle led the team with 23 points on nine of 18 shooting while Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis each scored 16 points. As a team, the Pelicans shot 46 percent from the field and nine of 24 from the 3-point line as they cut a 17-point deficit to six points late in the fourth quarter before the Jazz pull away. With the loss, New Orleans fell to 30-37 overall and 18-13 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Raptors are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 games following a loss, 4-12 ATS in their last 16 road games and 1-8 ATS in their last nine games overall. The Pelicans are 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a double-digit loss at home, 8-2 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record and 5-2 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 22-6-1 ATS in the last 29 meetings, the Raptors are 12-5-1 ATS in the last 18 meetings overall and 14-2 ATS in the last 16 meetings in New Orleans.
These teams have only met once so far this season and it was the Pelicans who won by 126-110 back on Nov 12, but so much has happened since then as the Raptors have risen to the top of the Eastern Conference while the Pelicans already have their eye on the offseason. The Raptors have fallen off the pace over the past couple of games, but they are 14-2 ATS in the last 16 meeting in New Orleans and I think they keep that trend going with a win and cover as they continue their surge towards the playoffs.
