The New York Knicks go for a second straight win when they visit the Atlanta Hawks tonight.
The Knicks looked fantastic in their season opening 122-97 win over the Bucks last night. Carmelo Anthony scored just 11 points on 4 of 16 shooting, but everyone else stepped up including Kristaps Porzingis who scored 16 points and Derrick Williams who poured in a game-high 24 points in just 21 minutes off the bench. Even the newly acquired Sasha Vujacic had himself a nice game, scoring 11 points, six rebounds and three assists who started in place of the injured Arron Afflalo.
Meanwhile, the Hawks had a miserable start to the season, losing to the Pistons by 106-94 on Tuesday. Dennis Schroder led the team with 20 points off the bench while Paul Millsap added 19 and Jeff Teague added 18, but the Hawks were switched on mentally and let a five-point deficit at halftime balloon out to a 16-point deficit by the end of the third quarter. Overall, the Hawks weren't too bad, but they definitely showed signs of rust as this was a game they would have won last season.
In ATS trends, the Hawks are 1-4 ATS in their last five against the Eastern Conference and 4-10 ATS in hteir last 14 against the NBA Atlantic, while the Knicks are 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight against the Eastern Conference and 5-2 ATS in their last seven against a team with a losing record.
Head to head, the Favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the Under is 7-2 in the last nine meetings in New York.
You can't really take too much out of just one game from both teams so far, but if the Hawks were anything like the team from last season, I expect them to fully bounce back with a nice road win tonight.
