The Atlanta Hawks pay a visit to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday night.
The Atlanta Hawks have lost five of their last six games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after falling to the Celtics in a 119-110 road loss on Friday. Taurean Prince led the team with 31 points on nine of 17 shooting, Dennis Schroder added 25 points while Marco Belinelli chipped in with 15 points off the bench. As a team, the Hawks shot 42 percent from the field and 11 of 31 from the three-point line but they really let themselves down in the third quarter where they allowed the Celtics to pour in 41 points to put the game out of reach. With the loss, Atlanta dropped to 15-37 overall and 4-21 on the road.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks could really do with a win as they’ve lost five of their last seven games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after Friday’s 92-90 loss at Milwaukee. Kristaps Porzingis and Enes Kanter led the team with 17 points each, Courtney Lee added 13 points while Jarrett Jack chipped in with 11 points and seven assists. As a team, the Knicks shot just 40 percent from the field and five of 25 from the three-point line, but they were still in the game right till the end until the Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo snatched victory with a game-winning layup to cap a 29-point performance. With the loss, New York dropped to 23-30 overall and 7-21 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Hawks are 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. Meanwhile, the Knicks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss, 1-4 ATS in their last five Sunday games and 1-4 ATS in their last five home games.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings, the underdog is 7-1 ATS in the last eight meetings and the Hawks are 2-6 ATS in their last eight meetings.
The Hawks may have found a bit of a gem in Prince who poured in 31 points in their last outing, but it still wasn’t enough as the Hawks just haven’t been able to buy a win these days. The Knicks haven’t been playing much better but they’ve covered in six of the last eight meetings while the Hawks continue to struggle on the road where they’ve won just four games all season. With that being said, I'm sticking with the Knicks to get the win and cover at home.
