The Los Angeles Clippers pay a visit to the New York Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Sunday afternoon.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been in great form as they’ve won nine of their last 10 games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after sneaking past the Cavaliers in a 110-108 road win on Friday. Danilo Gallinari led the team with 27 points, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander added 16 points with five assists while Lou Williams chipped in with 15 points and six assists off the bench. As a team, the Clippers shot 51 percent from the field and six of 26 from the 3-point line as they outscored the Cavaliers by 67-43 in the second and third quarters combined after falling into an early 15-point deficit to escape with the narrow win. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 43-30 overall and 20-17 on the road which is good for sixth place in the congested Western Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the New York Knicks have been in a real slump as they’ve lost 11 of their last 12 games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after getting routed by the Nuggets in a 111-93 home loss on Friday. Emmanuel Mudiay led the team with 21 points, seven rebounds and four assists, Kevin Knox added 19 points while Mitchell Robinson chipped in with 16 points and 10 rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Knicks shot just 37 percent from the field and nine of 32 from the 3-point line, but you knew early that this game was out of reach after the Nuggets stormed out of the gates to lead by 37-18 at the end of the first quarter. With the loss, New York fell to 14-59 on the season and 7-28 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Clippers are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a losing record, 9-4 ATS in their last 13 games against a team below .400 and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall. The Knicks are 18-38 ATS in their last 56 home games, 0-4 ATS in their last four games against a team with a winning record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 15-7 ATS in the last 22 meetings overall, the Clippers are 8-3 ATS in the last 11 meetings overall and the Clippers are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in New York.
Here we have two teams headed in opposite directions as the Clippers are looking to climb up the very congested Western Conference standings, while the Knicks have been in a terrible slump and they’re surely just looking to play out the regular season. These teams met back on Mar 3 and it was the Clippers who won by 128-107 and given the current form of these two teams and what is at stake for the Clippers, I’m expecting a similar result in this one.
