The Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers meet Sunday in game one of the NBA Western Conference playoffs at the Moda Center.
The Oklahoma City Thunder are in the playoffs for the fourth straight season and hope to get out of the first round for the first time since 2015-16. The Oklahoma City Thunder are averaging 114.5 points on 45.4 percent shooting and allowing 111.1 points on 46 percent shooting. Paul George is averaging 28 points and 8.2 rebounds while Russell Westbrook is averaging 22.9 points and 10.7 assists. Dennis Schroder is the third double-digit scorer and Steven Adams is grabbing 9.5 rebounds. The Oklahoma City Thunder are shooting 34.8 percent from beyond the arc and 71.3 percent from the free throw line. The Oklahoma City Thunder are allowing 35.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 48.1 rebounds per game. The Oklahoma City Thunder have won four of their last six road games.
The Portland Trail Blazers are in the playoffs for the sixth straight season and hope to get out of the first round for the first time since 2015-16. The Portland Trail Blazers are averaging 114.7 points on 46.7 percent shooting and allowing 110.5 points on 45.7 percent shooting. Damian Lillard is averaging 25.8 points and 6.9 assists while CJ McCollum is averaging 21 points and four rebounds. Enes Kanter is the third double-digit scorer and Al-Farouq Aminu is grabbing 7.5 rebounds. The Portland Trail Blazers are shooting 35.9 percent from beyond the arc and 81.4 percent from the free throw line. The Portland Trail Blazers are allowing 35.9 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 48 rebounds per game. The Portland Trail Blazers have won each of their last eight home games.
The Thunder are 4-13 ATS in their last 17 vs. Western Conference, 8-21 ATS in their last 29 Sunday games and 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Trail Blazers are 10-1 ATS in their last 11 games playing on 3 or more days rest, 7-24-2 ATS in their last 33 Conference Quarterfinals games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 vs. NBA Northwest. The Thunder are 4-0 ATS in the last 4 meetings. The over is 16-5-1 in Trail Blazers last 22 home games. The over is 3-0-1 in Thunder last 4 road games.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have won each of the last four meetings against the Portland Trail Blazers and have won those games by an average of seven points. For me this series comes down to the injury to Jusuf Nurkic, as Portland now doesn't have a big body who can clog the paint and make life difficult for Steven Adams. The big man from OKC should feast down low, both on easy put backs and key rebounds. We know about the stars for both teams and they're sure to put on a show, but the Oklahoma City Thunder have a big advantage in the paint and should get a lot of easy stuff at the rim that will make a world of difference. The Thunder are averaging nearly 16 offensive rebounds in their last five games, and if that continues heading into the playoffs, the Trail Blazers will be constantly playing catchup. I'll gladly take the Thunder and the free bucket.
