The Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the Dallas Mavericks at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Dallas Mavericks are pretty keen for the season to end as they’ve lost 12 of their last 14 games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling to the Heat in a 105-99 road loss on Thursday. Luka Doncic led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, Justin Jackson added 14 points while Dirk Nowitzki and Jalen Brunson each scored 13 points. As a team, the Mavericks shot 39 percent from the field and 16 of 47 as they dominated the early proceedings to lead by 10 points at halftime, but they couldn’t keep a lid on the Heat in the fourth quarter where they were outscored by 30-17 as the Heat’s Dwyane Wade put the nail in the coffin with a steal and layup with just seven seconds left. With the loss, Dallas fell to 29-46 on the season and 7-31 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder are searching for some consistency as they’ve lost six of their last eight games and they will be hoping to bounce back from another disappointing loss after falling to the Nuggets in a 115-105 home loss on Friday. Russell Westbrook led the team with 27 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, Paul George added 25 points with nine rebounds and four assists while Steve Adams chipped in with 16 points. As a team, the Thunder shot 48 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the 3-point line but they could never corral the Nuggets’ Jamal Murray who led his team with 27 points and nine assists without committing a single turnover. With the tough loss, Oklahoma City fell to 44-32 overall and 24-13 at home which is good for eighth place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record, 4-1-1 ATS in their last six road games and 3-1-2 ATS in their last six games following a loss. The Thunder are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 home games, 0-6 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record and 5-15 ATS in their last 20 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 5-0 in the last five meetings in Oklahoma City, the home team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings and the Mavericks are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings.
The Mavericks have been in terrible form lately with just two wins in their last 14 games, but they were close against the Heat on Thursday and they have already beaten the Thunder twice this season. The Thunder have really fallen off the pace lately which has seen them drop all the way down to eighth place in the Western standings, so they will be keen to get back on track with a win here. With so much on the line for the Thunder in terms of playoff seeding, I can’t see anything but a win for them at home, but their recent form doesn’t justify the line being this hefty.
