The Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the Los Angeles Lakers at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in a bit of a funk lately as they’ve lost seven of their last 11 games but they will be breathing a sigh of relief after snapping a two-game skid with a 107-100 home win over the Bulls on Tuesday. Lonzo Ball led the team with 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope added 17 points while Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma each scored 16 points. As a team, the Lakers shot 46 percent from the field and eight of 26 from the 3-point line but they actually trailed for most of the game until they took control of the game in the third quarter where they outscored the Bulls by 32-25. With the much-needed win, Los Angeles improved to 24-21 overall and 15-9 at home.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been in a bit of a slump themselves as they’ve lost four of their last five games and they will be hoping to bounce back after falling to the Hawks in a 142-126 road loss on Tuesday. Russell Westbrook led the team with 31 points, 11 assists and five steals, Paul George added 24 points on six of 18 shooting with five steals while Dennis Schroder and Jerami Grant each scored 21 points. As a team, the Thunder shot 45 percent from the field and just nine of 32 from the 3-point line as they rallied back from a 15-point deficit to take the lead in the third quarter, but they just fell to pieces in the fourth quarter where the Hawks outscored them by 45-26. With the loss, Oklahoma City fell to 26-17 overall and 12-11 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 2-7-1 ATS in their last 10 games following a win, 4-1 ATS in their last five road games against a team with a home record above .600 and 2-5-1 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Thunder are 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a loss of more than 10 points and 1-4 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings and the home team is 16-5 ATS in the last 21 meetings. The Lakers are 4-10 ATS in the last 14 meetings overall and 5-16 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Oklahoma City.
These teams last met a couple of weeks ago on Jan 2 and it was the Thunder who won by 107-100 at Los Angeles behind 37 points from George. LeBron James wasn’t available in that game and is expected to miss the team’s next two games, so it’ll be the same players lining up again in this one. The Thunder will be eager to get out of their funk with a big home win and I think they found their ideal matchup as the Lakers are a completely different outfit without James on the floor. The Lakers are 5-16 ATS in the last 21 meetings in Oklahoma City and I think that trend continues as the Thunder blow them out here.
