The Oklahoma City Thunder play host to the Minnesota Timberwolves at the Chesapeake Energy Arena on Tuesday night.
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in decent form as they’ve won five of their last eight games and they will be aiming for a third straight victory after blowing past the shorthanded Lakers in a 108-86 home win on Sunday. Karl-Anthony Towns led the team with 28 points, 18 rebounds and four blocks, Andrew Wiggins added 28 points on nine of 23 shooting while Jeff Teague chipped in with 15 points and 11 assists. As a team, the Timberwolves shot 46 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they cruised to victory after outscoring the LeBron-less Lakers in the first half by 64-45. With the easy win, Minnesota improved to 19-21 overall and 14-6 at home.
Meanwhile, the Oklahoma City Thunder have been in great form as they’ve won eight of their last 12 games and they were going for a fourth straight victory before falling to the Wizards in a 116-98 home loss on Sunday. Russell Westbrook racked up a triple-double of 22 points with 15 rebounds and 13 assists, Paul George added 20 points with five assists while Jerami Grant chipped in with 17 points. As a team, the Thunder shot just 43 percent from the field and 10 of 25 from the 3-point line but they just collapsed in the second half where they were outscored by 62-48. With the loss, Oklahoma City fell to 25-14 on the season and 13-5 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Timberwolves are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win and 2-8 ATS in their last 10 road games against a team with a winning home record. The Thunder are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a loss of more than 10 points, 4-1 ATS in their last five against the Western Conference and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the over is 4-1 in the last five meetings, the underdog is 6-1 ATS in the last seven meetings and the Timberwolves are 5-0 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Timberwolves have won five of their last eight games, but they will be looking for a fresh start after the firing of Tom Thibodeau as head coach of the team. The Thunder have been red-hot with Westbrook and George leading the way, but they were left scratching their heads after getting blown out by the struggling Wizards on Sunday. It’s hard to go against the Thunder to get the win at home, but I’m expecting a big effort from the Timberwolves in their first game without Thibodeau, so I’ll take the points here.
