The Dallas Mavericks and the Orlando Magic duke it out at the Amway Center on Friday night.
The Dallas Mavericks were in decent form heading into the All-Star break as they had won four of their last seven games and will be looking to pick up from where they left off after blowing past the Kings in a 130-111 home win on Feb 12. Luka Doncic led the team with 33 points, 12 rebounds and eight assists, Kristaps Porzingis added 27 points with 13 rebounds and five assists while Tim Hardaway Jr. chipped in with 19 points and six assists. As a team, the Mavericks shot a healthy 56 percent from the field and 17 of 40 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 63 points in the first half, before making it a blowout in the third quarter where they outscored the Kings by 33-25 to lead by as many as 25 points.
Meanwhile, the Orlando Magic have lost eight of their last 11 games overall, but they found a bit of form heading into the All-Star break as they’re aiming for a third straight victory after sneaking past the Pistons in a 116-112 overtime home win on Feb 12. Aaron Gordon led the team with 25 points, nine rebounds and nine assists, Markelle Fultz added 22 points with 10 assists while Nikola Vucevic racked up 19 points with 11 rebounds and seven assists. As a team, the Magic shot 45 percent from the field and 12 of 36 from the 3-point line as they squandered a 22-point lead, before regrouping in the overtime period where they held the Pistons to just four points to escape with the win.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 35-15-3 ATS in their last 53 road games, 15-6-2 ATS in their last 23 games against a team with a losing record and 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games following a win. The Magic are 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games, 7-19-2 ATS in their last 28 games against a team with a winning record and 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall.
Head to head, the over is 21-8 in the last 29 meetings overall, the Mavericks are 11-5 ATS in the last 16 meetings overall and the Mavericks are 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Orlando.
The Mavericks weren’t quite at their best heading into the break, but this is the point of the season where the contenders separate themselves from the rest of the pack, so I’m expecting the Mavericks to kick into gear against the Magic who are clinging onto the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. These two teams have met just once so far this season and it was the Mavericks who won by 107-106 back on Nov 6. I’m expecting another close contest, but the Mavericks are 10-3 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Orlando, so I’m taking them to get the win and cover in this one.
