The Orlando Magic (2-3) will look for a better result on Saturday than it had on Friday when it hosts the Denver Nuggets (3-2) at Amway Center. The Magic lost a one-sided 123-91 game at Amway Center Friday night against Milwaukee and things don’t get a whole lot easier on Saturday when Denver comes to town.
Orlando was led by Evan Fournier with 19 points and Nikola Vucevic with 14 points and seven rebounds. But this one got away in a hurry for the Magic being outscored 31-14 in the second quarter and it was never competitive after that. Despite entering the game as one of the best statistical defenses in the NBA, Orlando was run over by Giannis Antetokounmpo who scored 29 points with 14 rebounds in just 30 minutes.
The Magic did enter that game as the second-best defense in the NBA allowing just 93.8 points per game, but it also entered the game as the worst offensive scoring team in the NBA scoring just 95.8 points per game. There should be little surprise that four of Orlando’s five games have hit the under with one push. But with the total at just 204.5, the under might be a risky move.
Denver, on the other hand, comes in on a two-game losing streak after opening the season 3-0. It will also have an extra day of rest, but the Nuggets are on back-to-back road games, so that rest might be negated, especially after a 122-107 loss at New Orleans on Halloween night. Denver had seven players in double figures in that game led by Michael Porter Jr. off the bench with 15 points. Jamal Murray scored 14 points with six assists while Nikola Jokic added 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
The Nuggets are another good defensive team that doesn’t score unlimited points like teams such as Houston. Denver ranks 10th in the NBA in points allowed at 106.4 per game but ranks just 22nd in scoring at 106.0 points per game. It is also no surprise that more of Denver’s games this year have hit the under than otherwise.
So don’t overthink it. Orlando doesn’t score much but plays good defense, which should be just enough to slow down the Nuggets and keep this a low scoring game. Take the under.
