The Miami Heat and the Philadelphia 76ers duke it out at the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night.
The Miami Heat will be looking to make a run in the second half of the regular season after putting a halt to a three-game skid with a 112-101 road win over the Mavericks on Feb 13. Dwyane Wade continued his great form with a team-high 22 points in just 22 minutes off the bench, Dion Waiters added 20 points while Josh Richardson chipped in with 14 points and six assists. As a team, the Heat shot a healthy 54 percent from the field and 12 of 30 from the 3-point line as they struggled against the Mavericks in the first half before taking control of the game in the third quarter with a decisive 12-0 run that kept them in the lead for good. With the much-needed win, Miami improved to 26-30 overall and 15-14 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia 76ers have been building some momentum with five wins in hteir last eight games and they will be looking to keep things rolling after blowing past the hapless Knicks in a 126-111 road win just before the All-Star break. Joel Embiid led the team with 26 points and 14 rebounds, Tobias Harris added 25 points while Jimmy Butler chipped in with 13 points and eight assists. As a team, the 76ers shot a healthy 53 percent from the field and eight of 23 from the 3-point line as they cruised to victory after outscoring the Knicks by 71-55 in a one-sided first half. With the easy win, Philadelphia improved to 37-21 overall and 14-14 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Heat are 15-7 ATS in their last 22 road games, 5-2 ATS in their last seven games following a win of more than 10 points and 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team above .600. The 76ers are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a win, 1-4 ATS in their last five games playing on three or more days rest and 2-6 ATS in their last eight games following a win of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the road team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings, the Heat are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Philadelphia and the Heat are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Heat really haven’t been able to build any sort of momentum with six losses in their last eight games, but they will be hoping that the All-Star break gives them a bit of a freshen up as they jostle for playoff positioning. The 76ers have been playing well lately and will only get better as they continue to work the newly-acquired Harris into their offense. These two teams last met on Nov 12 and it was the 76ers who won by 124-114. The Heat will be looking for revenge in this one and they're a threat as they actually play better on the road than at home, but even without Embiid who is out for at least a week, I still like the 76ers to stay hot with a win and cover in this one.
