The Phoenix Suns play host to the Detroit Pistons at the Talking Stick Resort Arena on Thursday night.
The Detroit Pistons have been in great shape as they’ve won 10 of their last 14 games, but they will be eager to bounce back after falling to the lowly Cavaliers in a 126-119 upset road loss on Monday. Wayne Ellington drained seven 3-pointers to lead the team with 25 points, Andre Drummond added 21 points with 21 rebounds and five assists while Reggie Jackson chipped in with 15 points and four assists. As a team, the Pistons shot 44 percent from the field and 18 of 44 from the 3-point line, but the problem was with their defense as they just couldn’t get stops down the stretch as the Cavaliers finished with 39 points in the fourth quarter. Blake Griffin sat out Monday but it was only for rest so he is expected to be available on Thursday. With the loss, Detroit fell to 36-34 overall and 13-21 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Phoenix Suns have sprung to life with six wins in their last 11 games, but they will be looking to bounce back after getting routed by the Bulls in a 116-101 home loss on Monday. DeAndre Ayton led the team with 25 points and 12 rebounds on 12 of 17 shooting, Devin Booker added 25 points with eight rebounds and seven assists while Josh Jackson chipped in with 18 points and seven rebounds off the bench. As a team, the Suns shot 46 percent from the field and seven of 26 from the 3-point line but they were always fighting an uphill battle after falling behind by double-digits early. Kelly Oubre Jr. sat out the game with a left thumb sprain and he has already been ruled out for Thursday. With the loss, Phoenix fell to 17-55 overall and 10-25 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Pistons are 4-0 ATS in their last four games playing on two days rest, 9-3 ATS in their last 12 games against a team with a losing record and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Suns are 5-0 ATS in their last five games following a loss, 5-13 ATS in their last 18 games playing on two days rest and 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings, the Pistons are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Phoenix and the Pistons are 22-8 ATS in the last 30 meetings overall.
The Pistons thought they could get away with resting Blake Griffin against the Cavaliers on Monday, but that cost them a win so they will be looking to make up for that with a win here. The Suns are 7-2 ATS in their last nine games overall, but they will once again be shorthanded so it’s hard to back them against a Pistons team who are 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in Phoenix and 22-8 ATS in the last 30 meetings overall. I’m sticking with the Pistons to get the win and cover behind a big game from Griffin.
