The Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns meet Monday in NBA preseason action at the Talking Stick Resort Arena.
The Sacramento Kings enter another year in their rebuilding stage and have 11 of their 16 players 25 years old or younger. While a lot of attention will be on Duke star rookie Marvin Bagley III, the preseason is a chance for all of these young kids to prove themselves. Players such as Justin Jackson, Buddy Hield and Yogi Ferrell all have the ability to prove they’re capable of being part of the core that gets the Kings out of this funk they’ve been in over the last decade. Nemanja Bjelica and Zach Randolph are the only two players on the Kings roster who are 30 years old or older, so there’s a lot of youth and a lot of open playing time for those who perform. The Kings should be a competitive preseason team with so many players fighting for minutes heading into the regular season. The Sacramento Kings have lost six of their last seven preseason games. De'Aaron Fox is questionable with an achilles injury.
The Phoenix Suns have nowhere to go but up at just 21 wins last year and have three new starters this season. Devin Booker will likely be sidelined until the season opener with a hand injury, but it will be interesting to see how Trevor Ariza and Ryan Anderson fit in this fast paced Suns offense with all this youth. Most will have their eyes on rookie center Deandre Ayton, who has the potential to be a star in a league that doesn’t feature many traditional centers anymore. Josh Jackson looks to build on his second-team all-rookie selection and Mikal Bridges hopes his defensive effort and high basketball IQ can translate to the next level. The Suns have potential, but like the Kings, so much youth makes you question if this year will be any different than a year ago. The Phoenix Suns have split their last 10 preseason games.
The Suns are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 Monday games and 2-7 ATS in their last 9 home games. The under is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Phoenix and 7-3 in the last 10 meetings. The under is 4-0 in Kings last 4 road games and 16-5 in Kings last 21 overall.
Both of these teams should do well with all the youth and playing time up for grabs, and they both play at a fast pace that should result in a ton of shot attempts. This feels like one of those games where defense isn't going to play a big factor. So, I'll take the over in what should be an offensive explosion.
