The Washington Wizards travel to the Moda Center to battle the Portland Trailblazers on Monday night.
The Washington Wizards are hoping to avoid a third straight defeat to start the season as they’re coming into this one fresh off a 117-113 home loss to the Raptors. Bradley Beal led the team in scoring with 32 points and six assists, John Wall added 25 points with six assists while Austin Rivers chipped in with 12 points off the bench. As a team, the Wizards shot 41 percent from the field and 13 of 39 from the three-point line but they still couldn’t find a way past the Raptors who were without their leading scoring in Kawhi Leonard who was rested for the game. On a positive note, the Wizards did show plenty of fight to pull to within two points after trailing by as many as 13 points with 5:15 left in the fourth quarter.
Meanwhile, the Portland Trailblazers have hit the ground running to start the season as they’re now aiming for a third straight win after blowing past the Spurs in a 121-108 home win on Saturday. Damian Lillard led the team with 29 points and nine assists, CJ McCollum added 24 points while Jusuf Nurkic chipped in with 12 points. As a team, the Trailblazers shot a healthy 53 percent from the field and 15 of 32 from the three-point line while holding the Spurs to just 42 percent shooting as they scored a combined 75 points in the second and third quarter to build a comfortable 15-point lead going into the fourth quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Wizards are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a winning record, 1-10 ATS in their last 11 road games and 0-4 ATS in their last four games overall. The Trailblazers are 5-1 ATS in their last six against the Eastern Conference. 21-6-1 ATS in their last 28 home games and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a win of more than 10 points.
The Trailblazers are clearly feeling pretty good about themselves as they’ve kicked off their season with two solid home wins, while the Wizards will be disappointed with their start especially after losing to the shorthanded Raptors in their last outing. These two teams met just twice last season with each team winning on the road, but the Wizards have covered in just one of their last 11 road games overall while the Trailblazers have covered in 21 of their last 28 home games. Given the way these two teams have been playing so far, I’m definitely leaning towards the Blazers to make it three straight home wins to start the season.
