The San Antonio Spurs play host to the Brooklyn Nets at the AT&T Center on Thursday night.
The Brooklyn Nets have been in great form lately as they’ve won 11 of their last 14 games and they will be looking to stay hot after sneaking past the Bulls in a 122-117 home win on Tuesday. D’Angelo Russell led the way with 30 points and seven assists, Shabazz Napier added 24 points and four assists off the bench while Rondae Hollis-Jefferson and Joe Harris scored 18 and 17 points respectively. As a team, the Nets shot 44 percent from the field and 10 of 35 from the 3-point line as they endured a rough start against the Bulls before they turned it around in the second half where they poured in 72 points. With the narrow win, Brooklyn improved to 28-24 overall and 16-11 at home.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been in fine form themselves as they’ve won five of their last seven games and they will be gunning for a fourth straight victory after sneaking past the Suns in a 126-124 home win on Tuesday. LaMarcus Aldridge led the team with 29 points, 14 rebounds and four assists, Davis Bertans added 18 points, Marco Belinelli scored 17 points off the bench while Rudy Gay chipped in with 16 points and five assists. As a team, the Spurs shot 47 percent from the field and 15 of 34 from the 3-point line as they escaped with the narrow win thanks to Gay who drained the game-winner at the buzzer to steal the game. It certainly wasn’t the most clinical of wins as the Spurs allowed the lowly Suns to shoot a ridiculous 60 percent from the field, but they did just enough to get the win and improve to 30-22 overall and 20-7 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Nets are 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, 5-1 ATS in their last six games following a win and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Spurs are 28-11 ATS in their last 39 home games, 18-7-1 ATS in their last 26 games against a team with a winning record and 20-7-1 ATS in their last 28 games overall.
Head to head, the home team is 7-3 ATS in the last 10 meetings, the Nets are 7-25-1 ATS in the last 33 meetings overall and 0-6 ATS in the last six meetings in San Antonio.
The Nets have quietly been one of the form teams in the league and they are a solid 5-2 ATS in their last seven road games, but the Spurs have owned this matchup as they are 25-7-1 ATS in the last 33 meetings. I'm tempted to go with the Nets and the points but I just get the feeling that the Spurs will come out firing in this one after they got called out by coach Popovich for their lucky win over the lowly Suns in their last outing.
