The San Antonio Spurs play host to the Houston Rockets at the AT&T Center on Friday night.
The Houston Rockets have been in a bit of a rut as they will be hoping to snap a four-game skid after falling to the Mavericks in a 128-108 home loss on Wednesday. James Harden led the team with a triple-double of 25 points with 11 rebounds, 17 assists and six steals while James Ennis, Clint Capela and Daniel House Jr. each scored 18 points. As a team, the Rockets shot 46 percent from the field and 13 of 45 from the 3-point line but they were sloppy on the defensive end in the first half and got burned as the Mavericks never looked in danger after taking a 74-56 lead going into halftime. Chris Paul sat out his third straight game with a sore hamstring and is questionable for Friday.
Meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs have been searching for consistency as they’ve lost seven of their past 10 games and they will be aiming to bounce back after falling to the Timberwolves in a 128-89 road loss on Wednesday. Jakob Poeltl led the team with 14 points, Quincy Pondexter added 13 points while LaMarcus Aldridge and DeMar DeRozan chipped in with just 10 points each. As a team, the Spurs shot just 39 percent from the field and eight of 27 from the 3-point line but there was just no recovering after a horrendous second quarter where they were outscored by 29-9. With the loss, San Antonio fell to 10-11 overall and 4-8 on the road and they will be without Pau Gasol who is out indefinitely with a stress fracture in his right foot.
Looking at the betting trends, the Rockets are 1-5 ATS in their last six road games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team with a losing record and 0-5 ATS in their last five games overall. The Spurs are 15-6 ATS in their last 21 home games, 0-7 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a loss of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings, the favorite is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings and the home team is 4-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
These two teams have already met once this season and it was the Spurs who won by 96-89 back on Nov 10 behind 27 points from Aldridge. The Rockets have since shown signs of improvement but they’ve lost four straight and could again be without CP3 in this one. With that being said, the Spurs haven’t been much better but they are coming off their biggest loss of the season so I expect them to come out firing to get their season back on track with a much-needed win here.
