The Los Angeles Lakers pay a visit to the Toronto Raptors at the Scotiabank Arena on Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Lakers have been in a world of hurt as they’ve lost nine of their last 12 games, but they will be feeling a little better after snapping a five-game skid with a 123-107 road win over the lowly Bulls on Tuesday. LeBron James led the team with 36 points, 10 rebounds and four assists, Kyle Kuzma added 21 points while Kentavious Caldwell-Pope chipped in with 24 points on seven of 11 shooting off the bench. As a team, the Lakers shot 54 percent from the field and 13 of 33 from the 3-point line, but they really had to dig deep after a sluggish start had them trailing by as many as 20 points early in the second quarter. Fortunately, the Lakers regrouped and poured on a combined 82 points in the second and third quarters combined to make light work of the Bulls in the end. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 31-36 overall and 13-20 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Toronto Raptors have been in great form as they’ve won 11 of their last 15 games, but they will be looking to bounce back after getting blown off the court by the lowly Cavaliers in a 126-101 road loss on Monday. Kawhi Leonard led the team with 25 points and nine rebounds, Pascal Siakam added 15 points while Kyle Lowry chipped in with 14 points, but no other player finished in double figures. As a team, the Raptors shot 47 percent from the field and 11 of 39 from the 3-point line as they fell behind by four points in a closely contested first half, before getting blown off the court in the second half by 67-46. However, the story of the night was actually the fight between Serge Ibaka and Marquese Chriss who were both ejected for fighting. With the loss, Toronto fell to 48-20 overall and 21-13 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Lakers are 1-4 ATS in their last five games against a team above .600, 1-5 ATS in their last six road games and 1-5 ATS in their last six games overall. The Raptors are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record, 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games and 3-9 ATS in their last 12 games overall.
Head to head, the under is 6-2 in the last eight meetings, the Lakers are 2-5 ATS in the last seven meetings in Toronto and the Lakers are 0-5 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Lakers have been in a real funk lately, but they will be breathing a major sigh of relief after taking down the Bulls on Tuesday despite being so shorthanded. The Raptors have been solid lately without being impressive as they’ve won 11 of their last 15 games but are coming into this one fresh off a bad loss to the lowly Cavaliers. These teams last met on Nov 4 which resulted in a 121-107 win for the Raptors and I’m expecting a similar result as I just can’t trust the Lakers these days.
