The Line: Utah Jazz -2.5 -- Over/Under: 216
The Houston Rockets and Utah Jazz meet Saturday in game three of the NBA Western Conference playoffs at the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
The Houston Rockets can all but put this series to bed with another victory to go up 3-0. The Houston Rockets are averaging 120 points on 49.1 percent shooting and allowing 94 points on 39.4 percent shooting. James Harden is averaging 30.5 points and 10 assists while Eric Gordon is averaging 16.5 points and two rebounds. Chris Paul is the third double-digit scorer and PJ Tucker is grabbing four rebounds. The Houston Rockets are shooting 38.6 percent from beyond the arc and 85.7 percent from the free throw line. The Houston Rockets are allowing 23.1 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 44 rebounds per game. The Houston Rockets have won nine of their last 12 road games.
The Utah Jazz need a victory here to give themselves any real chance to win this series. The Utah Jazz are averaging 94 points on 39.4 percent shooting and allowing 120 points on 49.1 percent shooting. Rudy Gobert is averaging 16.5 points and 12 rebounds while Ricky Rubio is averaging 16 points and 7.5 assists. Donovan Mitchell is the third double-digit scorer and Derrick Favors is grabbing nine rebounds. The Utah Jazz are shooting 23.1 percent from beyond the arc and 77.8 percent from the free throw line. The Utah Jazz are allowing 38.6 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 44.8 rebounds per game. The Utah Jazz have won each of their last eight home games.
The Rockets are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Conference Quarterfinals games, 7-1-1 ATS in their last 9 vs. Western Conference and 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Jazz are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 vs. Western Conference. The Rockets are 5-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings in Utah and 9-4-1 ATS in the last 14 meetings. The under is 7-3 in Jazz last 10 home games. The under is 18-7-1 in Rockets last 26 overall.
I had to double check to make sure this line was accurate. It was. The Houston Rockets have mopped the floor with the Utah Jazz twice in this series and just because the series shifts to a different city, the Jazz are all of a sudden favorites. It makes no sense. The Rockets haven't only won both games easily, like an early bathroom break and the game is already out of hand, but they've won each of the last four meetings against the Jazz and the margin of victory in those games is 21 points. The Rockets have also won four of their last five road games outright when an underdog. Yes, the Jazz are a better team than what they've shown in the first two games and being at home should help the shots to fall from some of the role players. However, we've seen zero signs that this Jazz defense can even consider slowing down the Rockets. The Houston Rockets have gotten whatever they've wanted offensively in both games. I'll gladly take the free bucket, as this line is extremely surprising.
