The Line: Utah -9.5 -- Over/Under 227
The Los Angeles Clippers travel to Salt Lake City to battle the Utah Jazz at the Vivint Smart Home Arena on Wednesday.
The Los Angeles Clippers have been in decent shape as they’ve won four of their last six games and they will be looking to keep building on their 121-112 home win over the Mavericks on Monday. Montrezl Harrell led the team with a career-high 32 points on 14 of 17 shooting off the bench, Lou Williams added 21 points and 10 assists while Danilo Gallinari chipped in with 20 points. As a team, the Clippers shot 45 percent from the field and 17 of 45 from the 3-point line as they outlasted the Mavericks in a game that was closely contested throughout thanks to Luka Doncic who racked up another triple-double. With the win, Los Angeles improved to 34-28 on the season which is currently good for seventh place in the Western Conference standings.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz were enjoying their best stretch of basketball before splitting their last eight games, but they will be looking to build some momentum after blowing past the Mavericks in a 125-109 home win on Saturday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 25 points and six assists, Ricky Rubio added 25 points with five assists, Jae Crowder scored 22 points while Joe Ingles chimed in with 18 points and six assists. As a team, the Jazz shot 48 percent from the field and 14 of 38 from the 3-point line as they pulled away from the pesky Mavericks in the fourth quarter where they poured in 39 points. With the easy win, Utah improved to 33-28 overall which is good for sixth place in the Western Conference standings.
Looking at the betting trends, the Clippers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games against a team with a winning record, 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a win and 2-5 ATS in their last seven road games against a team with a home record above .600. The Jazz are 4-1 ATS in their last five home games, 5-0 ATS in their last five games against the Western Conference and 5-0 ATS in their last five games overall.
Head to head, the over is 4-0 in the last four meetings, the Clippers are 7-18-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings in Utah and the Clippers are 0-4 ATS in the last four meetings overall.
The Clippers were expected to just fade away after they traded away their leading scorer in Tobias Harris, but they’re still competing on a nightly basis and they’re still a dangerous team with Williams and Harrell capable of big scoring nights. The Jazz are clearly the better team in better form at this stage of the season and the Clippers are only 7-18-1 ATS in the last 26 meetings in Utah, but the Jazz have fallen off the pace lately and might just look past the Clippers with the Nuggets coming to town on Thursday. I'm taking the Clippers with the handful of points in this one.
