The Minnesota Timberwolves and Utah Jazz meet Thursday in NBA action at the Vivint Smart Home Arena.
The Minnesota Timberwolves could use a win here after splitting their last 12 games. The Minnesota Timberwolves are averaging 113 points on 45.6 percent shooting and allowing 113.4 points on 46.5 percent shooting. Karl-Anthony Towns is averaging 24.6 points and 12.2 rebounds while Derrick Rose is averaging 18 points and 4.3 assists. Andrew Wiggins is the third double-digit scorer and Jeff Teague is dishing 8.2 assists. The Minnesota Timberwolves are shooting 35.1 percent from beyond the arc and 79 percent from the free throw line. The Minnesota Timberwolves are allowing 37.7 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 45.1 rebounds per game. The Minnesota Timberwolves have lost each of their last six road games.
The Utah Jazz look for another win after splitting their last six games. The Utah Jazz are averaging 109.9 points on 46 percent shooting and allowing 106.8 points on 45.4 percent shooting. Donovan Mitchell is averaging 23.5 points and 4.1 assists while Rudy Gobert is averaging 15.3 points and 12.8 rebounds. The Utah Jazz are allowing 35.9 percent shooting from deep and are grabbing 45.9 rebounds per game. The Utah Jazz have won five of their last seven home games.
The Timberwolves are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 road games, 3-8 ATS in their last 11 Thursday games and 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games overall. The Jazz are 5-11 ATS in their last 16 games playing on 0 days rest, 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall. The Timberwolves are 4-1 ATS in the last 5 meetings in Utah and the road team is 19-7 ATS in the last 26 meetings. The under is 5-2 in Jazz last 7 overall. The over is 29-10 in Timberwolves last 39 overall.
I've bashed the Minnesota Timberwolves more than anybody, as this team doesn't play to its full potential and doesn't play a lick of defense. However, this line seems a bit steep when you consider the Timberwolves scoring ability and the Utah Jazz on the end of a back to back. The Timberwolves are also 6-2 ATS this season when an underdog of at least seven points, while the Jazz are just 4-4 ATS as a double-digit favorite. Also, three of the last seven meetings between the Timberwolves and Jazz have been decided by four or less points. I don't love backing the Timberwolves, but I'll make an exception here.
