The New Orleans Pelicans pay a visit to the Utah Jazz at the Vivint Smart Home Arena on Monday night.
The New Orleans Pelicans have been out of sorts since the trade talks started as they've lost five of their last nine games, but they will be gunning for a third straight victory after taking down the Nuggets in a 120-112 road win on Saturday. Jrue Holiday led the team with 29 points and five assists, Julius Randle added 28 points with 10 rebounds and four assists, while Frank Jackson chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Pelicans shot 48 percent from the field and 12 of 30 from the 3-point line as they exploded for 40 points in the second quarter to get back into the game after falling behind by 17 points early, but it was their defense that was key as they held the Nuggets to just 41 points in the second half. Anthony Davis did not suit up for this game and his status for Monday is unclear. With the win, New Orleans improved to 29-36 overall and 11-24 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in great form as they've won 10 of their last 14 games and they will be gunning for a fifth straight victory after sneaking past the league-leading Bucks in a thrilling 115-111 home win on Saturday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with a career-high 46 points on 15 of 32 shooting, Derrick Favors added 23 points with 18 rebounds and three blocks while Joe Ingles chipped in with 14 points and eight assists. As a team, the Jazz shot 45 percent from the field and 12 of 29 from the 3-point line, but they were getting outplayed by the Bucks for three quarters to fall behind by as many as 17 points in the fourth quarter before the Jazz relied behind Mitchell to pull off their best comeback win of the season. With the impressive win, Utah improved to
Looking at the betting trends, the Pelicans are 7-1 ATS in their last eight games against a team with a winning record, 7-3 ATS in their last 10 road games and 4-1 ATS in their last five games overall. The Jazz are 4-0 ATS in their last four games against a team with a losing record, 6-1 ATS in their last seven against the Western Conference and 6-2 ATS in their last eight games overall.
Head to head, the over is 16-5 in the last 21 meetings, the Pelicans are 6-13-3 ATS in the last 22 meetings in Utah and the Pelicans are 1-7-1 ATS in the last nine meetings overall.
The Pelicans deserve plenty of credit for continuing to stay competitive despite all the noise to do with Anthony Davis and all the rumors. The Jazz went through a bit of a funk, but they're back and look better than ever after pulling off a great comeback win against the best team in the league on Saturday. These two teams haven't met since Oct 27 and it was the Jazz who won by 132-111. The Pelicans are 1-7-1 ATS in the last nine meetings overall and I think that trend continues as the Jazz should be too good against the shorthanded Pelicans in this one.
