The Line: Phoenix +15 -- Over/Under 217.5
The Phoenix Suns pay a visit to the Utah Jazz at the Vivint Smart Home Arena on Monday night.
The Phoenix Suns have been in a slump lately as they’ve lost five of their last six games and they will be hoping to snap a three-game skid after falling short against the Kings in a 112-103 road loss on Saturday. Devin Booker led the team with 32 points and 10 assists, DeAndre Ayton added 19 points with 11 rebounds while Troy Daniels chipped in with 16 points off the bench. As a team, the Suns shot just 40 percent from the field and nine of 34 from the 3-point line as they stormed out of the gates to lead by as many as 14 points late in the second quarter, but they couldn’t keep up that pace in the second half as the Kings poured on 65 points in a dominant second half. With the loss, Phoenix fell to 17-57 on the season and 7-31 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in great form as they’ve won six of their last seven games and they will be looking to stay hot after making light work of the lowly Bulls in a 114-83 road loss on Saturday. Rudy Gobert led the team with 21 points, 14 rebounds and four blocks, Donovan Mitchelll added 16 points while Joe Ingles and Derrick Favors each scored 13 points. As a team, the Jazz shot 48 percent from the field and 11 of 32 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 33 points in the first quarter, before putting the game beyond doubt in the second quarter to lead by 70-36 heading into halftime which allowed coach Snyder to rest his starters early. With the easy win, Utah improved to 43-30 overall and 20-18 on the road which is currently good for seventh place in a very congested Western Conference.
Looking at the betting trends, the Suns are 6-0 ATS in their last six road games, 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following a loss and 8-3 ATS in their last 11 games overall. The Jazz are 5-1 ATS in their last six games against a team with a losing record, 4-1 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points and 6-1 ATS in their last seven games overall.
Head to head, the under is 23-9 in the last 32 meetings, the Suns are 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall and the Suns are 3-9-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Utah.
The Suns put up a good fight against the Kings in their last outing despite being so shorthanded, but I don’t see them repeating that performance against the red-hot Jazz who just have too much to play for in terms of playoff seedings. Yes, the Suns are 6-0 ATS in their last six road games, but they are just 3-9-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings in Utah. The Jazz have already blown out the Kings twice this season and I think they stay red-hot with another win and cover in this one.
