The San Antonio Spurs pay a visit to the Utah Jazz at the Vivint Smart Home Arena on Tuesday night.
The San Antonio Spurs haven’t been at their best as they’ve lost five of their last eight games but they were able to snap a two-game skid with a 131-118 home win over the Trailblazers on Sunday. DeMar DeRozan led the team with 36 points, eight rebounds and six assists, LaMarcus Aldridge added 29 points on 11 of 15 shooting while Rudy Gay chipped in with 18 points. As a team, the Spurs shot a sizzling 60 percent from the field and 11 of 15 from the 3-point line as they poured on 69 points in the second half to pull away from the Trailblazers in a shootout. With the much-needed win, San Antonio improved to 11-12 overall and 7-4 at home.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have won three of their last five games but they will be looking to bounce back after falling to the Heat in a 102-100 road loss on Sunday. Ricky Rubio led the team with 23 points and six assists, Jae Crowder added 19 points, Donovan Mitchell scored 18 points while Rudy Gobert chipped in with 12 points, 18 rebounds and four assists. As a team, the Jazz shot 43 percent from the field and 11 of 33 from the 3-point line but they will be kicking themselves after squandering a 19-point lead only to lose in the final seconds as the Heat’s Dwyane Wade drew the foul and made the free throws to steal the game late. With the loss, Utah dropped to 11-13 overall and 9-7 on the road.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 6-16 ATS in their last 22 road games, 0-7 ATS in their last seven games against a team with a losing record and 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win. The Jazz are 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games and 1-8 ATS in their last nine home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the over is 7-1 in the last eight meetings, the home team is 35-17-2 ATS in the last 54 meetings and the underdog is 3-1-1 ATS in the last five meetings.
The Spurs have really fallen off the pace lately, but they will be feeling much better after making light work of the Trailblazers on Sunday. The Jazz looked to be building some nice momentum before shooting themselves in the foot against the Heat on Sunday after leading by as many as 19 points. The Jazz are only 3-8 ATS in their last 11 home games and I think that trend continues as I expect the Spurs to stay hot after their season-best shooting performance in their last outing. I like the Jazz to come away with narrow win but I'll take the Spurs with the points.
