The Utah Jazz play host to the San Antonio Spurs at the Vivint Smart Home Arena on Saturday night.
The San Antonio Spurs have cooled off since their five-game win streak as they’re now looking to avoid a fourth straight defeat after falling to the Trailblazers in a 127-118 road loss on Thursday. DeMar DeRozan led the team with 35 points and six assists, Rudy Gay added 25 points on 10 of 15 shooting while LaMarcus Aldridge chipped in with 17 points and 10 rebounds. As a team, the Spurs shot 52 percent from the field and 12 of 21 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 34 points in the first quarter, but they were always fighting an uphill battle after the Trailblazers blew them out by 39-23 in the second quarter. With the loss, San Antonio fell to 32-25 overall and 10-18 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Utah Jazz have been in great form as they’ve won 11 of their last 14 games and they will be feeling pretty good after blowing past the Suns in a 116-88 home win on Wednesday. Donovan Mitchell led the team with 21 points on eight of 21 shooting, Rudy Gobert added 16 points and 12 rebounds while Joe Ingles chipped in with 15 points and 11 assists. As a team, the Jazz shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 28 from the 3-point line as they paced themselves for three quarters before outscoring the Suns by 37-17 in a fourth quarter blowout. With the win, Utah improved to 31-24 overall and 17-10 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Spurs are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 games following a loss, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 0-6 ATS in their last six games overall. The Jazz are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six games following a win, 2-5 ATS in their last seven games playing on two days rest and 0-4-1 ATS in their last five games following a win of more than 10 points.
Head to head, the over is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings and the home team is 37-17-2 ATS in the last 56 meetings.
These teams have split two meetings this season with the Spurs winning the recent meeting by 110-97 back on Dec 9. Both teams have been playing well since then, but the Spurs have been fading lately with three straight losses while the Jazz have been in great form. There’s not much splitting these two teams at the moment, but the Jazz have clearly been the hotter team and I think they get the win and cover at home in this one.
