The Washington Wizards and the Atlanta Hawks battle it out in Game 6 tonight at the Verizon Center.
After stumbing throughout the entire series, the Hawks finally look to have regained their regular season form with an impressive 106-101 win in Game 4, but instead they came up with one of their scratchiest wins of the season, beating the Wizards by 82-81 in Game 5. Jeff Teague and Paul Millsap had 14 points each for the Hawks while DeMarre Carroll added 10 points as the Hawks committed a season-high 23 turnovers while making just 21 assists as a team. Fortunately for the Hawks, they have Al Horford who made the game-winning putback layup in the waning seconds of the game to give the Hawks the win and finish with 23 points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.
As for the Wizards, Bradley Beal led the way with 23 points while Paul Pierce added 11 points, but the big story of the night was the return of John Wall who finished with 15 points and seven assists. The real beneficiary of Wall's return was Marcin Gortat who shook off a couple of quiet games with 14 points on seven of 10 shooting and once again Paul Pierce came up big, hitting a late three to give the Wizards the lead before they allowed an offensive rebound and layup. The return of Wall into the lineup gave the Wizards a major lift in the first half, but they shot just 37.5 percent from the field as a team overall and scored just 34 points in the second half which really spoiled their game.
In ATS trends, the Hawks are 4-9-1 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven games following a win, while the Wizards are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games following a loss and 12-3-2 ATS in their last 17 games overall.
Head to head, the Hawks are 3-1-1 ATS in their last five meetings in Washington and the over is 7-2 in the last nine meetings overall.
This Hawks were far from convincing in Game 5 but were still able to come out on top with a big play from Horford, but with Wall back on the court for the Wizards, this series definitely feels like it is going the distance.
