The Line: Washington -5.5 -- Over/Under 231.5
The Washington Wizards play host to the Dallas Mavericks at the Capital One Arena on Wednesday night.
The Dallas Mavericks have been in a real funk as they’ve lost seven of their last eight games and they will be hoping to avoid a third straight defeat after getting blown out by the Nets in a 127-88 road loss on Monday. Dwight Powell led the team with 20 points, six rebounds and six assists, Luka Doncic added 16 points while Jalen Brunson chipped in with 10 points, but no other player scored more than seven. As a team, the Mavericks shot a miserly 35 percent from the field and 12 of 45 from the 3-point line and they were always fighting a losing battle after falling behind by 65-47 going into halftime. With the loss, Dallas fell to 27-36 overall and 6-25 on the road.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have been in a slump of their own as they’ve lost five of their last seven games but they will be looking to build some momentum after taking down the Timberwolves in a 135-121 home win on Sunday. Bobby Portis led the team with 26 points and 12 rebounds, Bradley Beal and Jabari Parker each scored 22 points while Trevor Ariza chipped in with 16 points and four assists. As a team, the Wizards shot 50 percent from the field and 11 of 33 from the 3-point line as they set the tone with 40 points in the first quarter before making it a blowout in the second half where they outscored the Timberwolves by 73-57. With the easy win, Washington improved to 26-37 on the season and 18-12 at home.
Looking at the betting trends, the Mavericks are 0-4 ATS in their last four road games, 20-6 ATS in their last 26 games following a loss of more than 10 points and 1-7 ATS in their last eight games overall. The Wizards are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 home games, 1-4 ATS in their last five games following a win and 5-2 ATS in their last seven home games against a team with a losing road record.
Head to head, the underdog is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings, the Mavericks are 6-0 ATS in the last six meetings in Washington and the Mavericks are 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall.
The Mavericks have had plenty of bright spots this season, but they’re in a season-worst slump at the moment as they’ve lost their last two games by a combined 69 points. The Wizards were in a slump of their own before winning two of their last three games, but they lost to the Mavericks by 119-100 in their last meeting back on Nov 6. The Mavericks are 11-1 ATS in the last 12 meetings overall, but in their current form, I have to lean towards the Wizards to get the win and cover at home.
