The Portland Trailblazers and the Washington Wizards duke it out at the Capital One Arena on Sunday night.
The Portland Trailblazers started the season hot with 10 wins in their first 13 games but they’ve cooled off a little with two losses in a row after falling to the Timberwolves in a 112-95 road loss on Friday. CJ McCollum led the team with 18 points while Jusuf Nurkic added 13 points with 11 rebounds, but Damian Lillard scored just 16 points on five of 18 shooting. As a team, the Trailblazers shot just 42 percent from the field and eight of 29 from the three-point line and they couldn’t keep pace with the motivated Timberwolves who were obviously looking for revenge after getting held to a league-low 81 points in their last meeting.
Meanwhile, the Washington Wizards have found a bit of form with four wins in their last seven outings but they will be looking to bounce back after having their three-game win streak snapped by the Nets in a 115-104 home loss on Friday. Dwight Howard led the team with a season-high 25 points and 17 rebounds, Bradley Beal added 20 points, Kelly Oubre Jr. scored 18 points while John Wall chipped in with 16 points and seven assists. As a team, the Wizards shot 42 percent from the field and a miserable three of 18 from the three-point line and they never looked threatening after the Nets went on a 19-5 run to take a 15-point lead in the third quarter.
Looking at the betting trends, the Trailblazers are 3-7 ATS in their last 10 road games, 4-1 ATS in their last five against the Eastern Conference and 7-3 ATS in their last 10 games overall. The Wizards are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games following a loss, 1-5 ATS in their last six games against a team with a winning record and 5-12 ATS in their last 17 games overall.
Head to head, the road team is 4-0 ATS in the last four meetings, the Trailblazers are 3-8 ATS in the last 11 meetings in Washington and 1-4 ATS in the last five meetings overall.
The Trailblazers were one of the hottest teams in the league to start the season but back to back losses has them coming back to Earth. The Wizards stumbled in their disappointing loss to the Nets on Friday, but they were building some momentum going into that one. This feels like a coin flip, but with the line so even, I think the value is with the more reliable Trailblazers to bounce back as slight road favorites here.
