NFL | Shaq Thompson Player Profile

Shaq Thompson

School: Washington Huskies

Height: 6’0”

Weight: 228

Position: Linebacker

Career Stats: 233 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, five interceptions and three forced fumbles.

Strengths: Shaq Thompson’s biggest strength would be his versatility, as he played linebacker, running back and safety at Washington. Shaq simply has a nose for the football and knows what to do with it, as he scored five defensive touchdowns. Shaq is athletic and quick enough to cover either receivers or running backs out of the backfield. Thompson has natural ball skills. Thompson is always looking to make a big play on either side of the ball, and he averaged 7.5 yards per carry as a RB. Shaq Thompson has a high football IQ, works hard and is a leader on and off the field. Thompson is an NFL-ready player who will only improve wherever you put him.

Weaknesses: The main issue everyone has with Shaq Thompson is that nobody knows what position he’s going to play. Whether safety, linebacker or running back, Thompson must add weight and strength to his upper-body. Thompson can sometimes get stuck at the line of scrimmage.

Projection: Shaq Thompson is one of my favorite players in this draft class because he brings so much to the table. I’d use Thompson as a linebacker due to his athleticism and playmaking ability. Shaq has the potential to be a game-changer on the defensive side of the ball and it would be foolish for an NFL team to mess that up. Thompson is a first round pick for sure.
