School: Indiana Hoosiers
Position: Running Back
Career Stats: 452 rushing attempts, 3,219 rushing yards and 28 touchdowns.
Strengths: Tevin Coleman is the last of a dying breed, as he’s an old school runner who runs with extreme toughness and is looking for contact. Coleman is a violent runner who always keeps his legs moving and finishes runs strong. Despite his running style, Coleman proved to be quite durable, as he racked up more than 400 carries his last two seasons. While toughness is his top trait, Coleman is also quite shifty in the open field and does a nice job of changing direction without losing much quickness. Tevin Coleman also has no off-the-field issues and is a leader on and off the field. Coleman has experience on special teams and could dabble into that in the NFL as well.
Weaknesses: Tevin Coleman isn’t going to break many tackles and his pad level is usually a little high. Coleman lacks a second gear once he gets out in the open field, and he had issues with ball security throughout his career at Indiana. Coleman could also improve as a receiver if he hopes to be an every-down back at the next level.
Projection: Tevin Coleman will have to be more patient if he hopes to really bust out in the NFL. However, teams are always looking for that physical guy in the backfield, and Coleman certainly fits the bill. Coleman is probably one of the more underrated backs in this draft. I’d consider drafting Coleman as early as late second round.
