The Line: Baltimore Ravens -3 -- Over/Under:
The Pittsburgh Steelers and Baltimore Ravens meet Thursday night at M&T Bank Stadium in a key division game.
The Pittsburgh Steelers survived a close game against the Cleveland Browns in week 1, winning, 30-27. Ben Roethlisberger threw for 365 yards and a touchdown, while running backs Le’Veon bell and LeGarrette Blount rushed for a touchdown apiece. Defensively, Troy Polamalu led the Steelers with 11 tackles, while Julio Jones was one of three players to pick up a sack. Overall, the victory was an impressive one for the Pittsburgh Steelers considering last season’s slow start and disappointment. Roethlisberger looked like the quarterback of old and led a consistent offense, and the Steelers defense came up with timely stops to secure the victory. There’s still room for improvement, but the Steelers proved that the sky isn’t falling after all.
The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Cincinnati Bengals, 23-16. The Ravens were absolutely terrible offensively in their season debut, as Joe Flacco completed 56.5 percent of his passes and the running game managed just 91 yards. The Ravens were held scoreless until late in the third quarter and finished 8-17 on third down attempts. Steve Smith, however, did have 118 yards and a touchdown. Flacco has to perform better, but it’s clear the Ravens missed running back Ray Rice in the losing effort. Defensively, Daryl Smith led the Ravens with nine tackles and Terrell Suggs had the team’s only tackle for loss. The Baltimore Ravens were flat out of the gate and now have a short week in hopes of turning things around.
Without Ray Rice, the Ravens offense really struggles to move the chains, and I’m not impressed at all with the way they played in their season opener. Meanwhile, the Steelers looked sharp and a little more hungry and should be eager to get the win against a heated rival.
Due to getting bad vibes from the Ravens, I have no choice but to take the Pittsburgh Steelers and the points.
