|Date & Time||Sunday October 19, 2014, 8:30 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Denver Broncos -6.5 -- Over/Under: 50.5
The San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos will play Sunday night at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.
The San Francisco 49ers have won three straight games and have turned to their defense to lead the way during this stretch. The 49ers are allowing 20.5 points, 287.2 yards, and they’ve forced 10 sacks and 11 turnovers. The 49ers have won nine straight regular season games when allowing 21 or less points. Patrick Willis leads the 49ers with 34 tackles and Ian Williams has three tackles for loss. Offensively, Colin Kaepernick is completing 64 percent of his passes for 10 touchdowns and four interceptions, and he’s thrown four touchdowns and zero picks in his last two games. The 49ers have 23 passing plays of 20 or more yards, while Anquan Boldin and Michael Crabtree have combined for close to 700 yards and four touchdowns. The 49ers ground game has really taken a back seat lately, but Frank Gore does lead San Fran with 402 rushing yards and a touchdown. San Francisco’s running game will have to be effective for the 49ers to win this matchup.
The Denver Broncos will look to remain undefeated at home with a win this week. The Broncos will continue to go as far as Peyton Manning leads them, as he’s completing 66.5 percent of his passes for 15 touchdowns and three interceptions. Denver has won 10 straight regular season games when Manning has thrown at least three touchdowns. The Broncos have 20 passing plays of 20 or more yards, and Demaryius Thomas and Julius Thomas have combined for 13 of Manning’s 15 touchdown passes. The Broncos ground game will be tested with leading rusher Montee Ball out indefinitely. The bulk of the carries will likely be given to Ronnie Hillman, who is second on the team with 166 rushing yards. Defensively, the Denver Broncos are allowing 20.8 points, 318.2 yards, and they’ve forced five turnovers and 15 sacks. Brandon Marshall leads the Broncos with 39 tackles and Von Miller has six sacks.
The 49ers are 10-3 ATS in their last 13 road games and 15-7 ATS in their last 22 games overall. The Broncos are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 home games and 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a S.U. win.
In a game between two of the best teams in the league, I have to go with the points. The 49ers have that same physical style to them that the Seahawks have, which of course gives Manning and the Broncos issues. This will be a tight game throughout and the points will likely come in handy.
