The Line: Denver Broncos -7 -- Over/Under: 49.5
The Denver Broncos and the Arizona Cardinals face off on Sunday at Sports Authority Field at Mile High in a battle of NFL teams who are coming off of a bye week.
The Denver Broncos mounted a furious rally at Seattle to get the game to overtime in their last game but they let it get away as the Seahawks scored a touchdown on their opening drive of OT for the win. The Broncos are averaging 25 points per game and 339.3 yards both lower numbers than many expected. Peyton Manning as completed 66.7 percent of his passes with eight touchdowns and an interception as he looks for redemption from last year’s tough loss in the Super Bowl. Montee Ball has taken over in the Broncos backfield averaging 3.4 yards per carry and he has seven receptions. Emmanuel Sanders is Denver’s leading receiver with 25 catches while Julius Thomas has 14 catches and five touchdowns. The Broncos defense is allowing 22.3 points per game and 390.7 yards with three interceptions, eight sacks, and three fumble recoveries. Brandon Marshall has 30 tackles and a sack, Nate Irving has 29 tackles, and DeMarcus Ware has 2.5 sacks. The Broncos appear as if they haven’t fully hit their stride as of yet and they had plenty to work on in their bye week.
The Arizona Cardinals are one f the last unbeaten teams in the NFL and they are coming off a win against their division rivals, the San Francisco 49ers. The Arizona offense is averaging 22 points and 335.7 yards per game both ranking them in the bottom third of the NFL. Drew Stanton has taken over at QB for the injured Carson Palmer who is still questionable for this one as Stanton has completed 51.6 percent of his passes with two touchdowns and no interceptions. Andre Ellington has been the answer in the Cardinals backfield averaging 4.5 yards per carry and he has nine receptions out of the backfield. Michael Floyd has 11 catches and Larry Fitzgerald has 10 as it has really been about the defense for the Cards. Defensively the Cardinals are third in the NFL in points allowed with 15 and fifth in yards allowed at 316.3 per game with three interceptions, three sacks, and a fumble recovery. Tony Jefferson has 26 tackles, Larry Foote has 22 tackles, and Rashad Johnson has 19 tackles. The Cardinals didn’t make the playoffs with 10 wins last season and don’t want to be on the outside looking in at the post season this year.
Denver is 13-5 against the spread following a bye week, 1-5 against the spread in their last six home games, and 0-4 against the spread in their last four games. Arizona is 5-0 against the spread in their last five road games, 8-2 against the spread in their last 10 games, and 7-1 against the spread following a win. The favorite has covered the point spread in four of the last five meetings of these two.
The total here just looks to be too big as the Broncos offense hasn’t been all that strong and the Cardinals defense is just one of the best so the play here is the under. My stronger pick is on who will cover the spread and I will post that in the Premium Area as well as on the App.
