The New England Patriots and Carolina Panthers play a preseason game Friday at Bank of America Stadium.
The New England Patriots improved to 2-0 in preseason play with a 23-22 win over the Chicago Bears. In the victory, Jimmy Garoppolo led the way with 181 passing yards and one touchdown. It will be interesting to see if Tom Brady plays in this game after sitting out with a cut hand. AJ Derby and Chris Hogan combined for 124 receiving yards and one touchdown while Martellus Bennett had two receptions. The New England Patriots ground game averaged 4.4 yards per carry and LeGarrette Blount led the charge with 69 yards and one touchdown Defensively, Justin Coleman led the Patriots with six tackles, Jordan Richards had one tackle for loss and Rufus Johnson had one pass deflection.
The Carolina Panthers improved to 1-1 in preseason play after a 26-16 win over the Tennessee Titans. In the victory, Cam Newton led the way with 162 passing yards and one touchdown. Newton completed eight of 12 passes and should feel comfortable heading into the third game. Ted Ginn Jr. and Marcus Lucas combined for 100 receiving yards and one touchdown while Fozzy Whittaker had one reception. The Carolina Panthers ground game averaged 2.5 yards per carry and Brandon Wegher led the charge with 24 yards on eight carries. Defensively, Colin Jones led the Panthers with six tackles, Bene Benwikere had one sack and A.J. Klein had one pass deflection.
The Patriots are 3-12 ATS in their last 15 games on grass and 1-6 ATS in their last 7 road games. The Panthers are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games on grass and 11-5 ATS in their last 16 games overall. The Patriots are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 meetings.
A game where Newton and the starters are going to play the bulk of the game against Garoppolo and a different looking Pats team. The choice here should be rather simple. Give me Carolina and the reasonable line.
